Dano,
Burkina Faso, February 2005. Hot! 110 degrees, but not
as hot as it will be. Dusty! Sun looks like an eclipse,
but maybe getting better. Hospitality? Couldn't be better.
Fellowship? Wonderful. Getting to know brothers and
sisters of the Dagara tribe is a humbling and instructive
experience. We came to Dano to encourage and teach,
and we were encouraged and taught. We came to bless
and were blessed.
We
have witnessed maturity, preparation and dedication
among the Carters, Chankins and Johnsons. (The Burks
are on furlough.) They chose to learn the Dagara language
and the culture before beginning to evangelize. Though
time consuming and slow at times, it has paid off in
integration and acceptance into the society and numerous
conversions once they began reaching out.
We
have been impressed by their patient efforts to develop
leaders and prepare them to evangelize their people.
Plans are even being made for the young Christians to
reach out, on their own, into neighboring villages.
Is
it easy? Not at all. When possible, they choose to ride
bikes or walk to show that the local Christians can
do the same in order to meet faithfully and regularly,
and reach beyond their own villages.
Is
God being glorified? Most definitely. And may his name
be praised for ever!

Hello
from HOT and DUSTY Burkina Faso. The
month of Feb. was a good one for our
family. We finally finished our guesthouse
and were able to host our first non-African
resident visitors. Pamela and Arlin
Hendrix , from Lyon, stayed with our
team for 3 weeks. What a blessing
and encouragement they were to us
all. They hosted a marriage seminar
for us, which we all greatly appreciated.
We took them on a short trip to Banfora,
which is the prettiest part of Burkina.
While there, we were able to hike
around some waterfalls and tour a
sugar cane factory. In Dano, the Hendrix
got to meet many of our friends, visit
villages, share in local cuisine and
basically get a feel for life here.
We are so thankful to them for making
the effort to come.
Emma is doing great. She is always
ready to show off that toothy grin
to see what reaction she'll get. She
enjoys playing with several of the
local kids although they don't always
know what to make of her. Archie continues
his weekly study with Donatien and
will start another with Alexis a handicap
man in town. Please continue to pray
that God will reveal himself to the
Dagara. Pray also that God would speed
our language acquisition so that we
will be able to communicate His message
more effectively. Also, be praying
about the possible preaching points
where Archie and Chad will be meeting
the village elders to see if Archie
and Chad can begin teaching next month.
Thank you for your prayers for our
physical health, they have been heard
and answered.
We love and miss you,
Archie,
Mandy and Emma

This
month has been a roller coaster. Once again the
day after we sent out our report tragedy hit our
household. Our seven month old puppy, Daisy Mei,
died while we were in Ouaga. We were utterly distraught
as she was such a big part of our lives. She helped
our house feel like a home and during days of
peaking cultural stress she was the one good thing.
We miss her terribly. This month has been exciting
with all the visitors though. Amy's Uncle, Willis
Wright, spent a week with us in Dano and that
was immediately followed by the Hendrixs. We have
both been trying to accelerate our language learning
as much as we can in view of our upcoming furlough
at the end of this year. We did have a doctors
appointment and the baby is healthy and growing.
Unfortunately, Amy's morning sickness has not
eased and she continues to throw up morning, noon,
and night. This has been frustrating for her since
it hinders her available time to be out exercising
her Dagara. Please pray that Amy's nausea will
ease (as she hopes it will at the end of the first trimester). We were encouraged by empathetic
comments about life without water and we ask you
to remember this situation in your prayers. Please
also pray this month for a new village to hear
God's word. Chad will be specifically focusing
this month on the options of starting to teach
in some village before the rains begin this year.

It's
hard to believe that we've already been
back in Burkina Faso more than a month!
February has been a month of resettling
in to our home and our work. We've begun
again our ministry in Mebar and will begin
this Thursday going out to Dano-Pari. We
hope soon to go out to new areas chosen
by the Christians of these villages to start
evangelizing as coworkers with Dagara Christian
leaders.
We've
enjoyed the visit these last three weeks
of Arlin and Pamela Hendrix, missionary
friends of ours from Lyon, France. In addition
to a wonderful marriage seminar that they
led for our team, we've been able to seek
out some of the more 'touristy' things Burkina
has to offer. We've been to the waterfalls,
the sugar factory, and the artisan center.
We've also enjoyed being in the capital
for the semi-annual African film festival
FESPACO (Andy even met Danny Glover, of
Lethal Weapon-renown!)
We
seek your prayers for us, for our teammates,
for the village churches, and for all our
friends around Dano who don't yet know Jesus
- pray that we might all come to know Him
and better glorify Him with our lives.
