| Hello to
you all from the Burks, Carters, Chankins, and Johnsons!
Welcome to the first edition of the Dagara Digest. The
Dagara Digest is an email publication sent to you by the
mission team living in Dano, Burkina Faso, working among
the Dagara people. The Dagara Digest will keep you informed
of our work among the Dagara, the goings-on within our
families, and the ways you can join us in our work through
prayer. You are on this list because you have expressed
interest in receiving emails from at least one of our
four families. You are invited to write to any of us with
your comments. Also, if you have a friend who would like
to receive the Dagara Digest on a regular basis, please
forward this message to them and ask them to click on
the "subscribe" button on the left. Thank you for your
interest, your support and, most importantly, your prayers
on behalf of God’s work here among the Dagara!

It
is now almost three months since we arrived
in Burkina Faso to join our teammates. Luckily
this past month we were able to "head out
on our own" and moved into our house. The
move has been all too easy thanks to the
support and advance preparation of our team.
We feel spoiled that we are getting to enjoy
the first fruits among the Dagara so soon
after arriving. It is a great encouragement
to us as we finish getting settled and look
to starting full time language study. We
celebrate also that in this past month we
have become team-uncle and team-aunt, with
the birth of Emma, and that the rains have
arrived to show the true diversity of Burkina
Faso's weather.

We
would like to present Emma Grace Chankin.
She was born May 11, 2004 at 3:51 p.m. and
she weighed 4 lbs. 14 oz. and was 18 ½ inches
long. Mandy and Emma came home a few days
later. Emma came into the world hungry and
has not slowed down one iota. She is gaining
a ½ lb. about every four days. Now, she
is adjusting to her new surroundings and
we to ours. Mandy and I are adjusting to
our new sleeping schedules and we pray that
soon Emma will be finished with the colic
and will be able to sleep longer through
the night. We are saddened not to be in
Dano while the first baptisms are happening,
but are enjoying our new life with our daughter
and coming to understand the gift she is.
If you would like to contact us by phone
you can call 972-874-3406. We are looking
forward to returning in a few months to
rejoin our team and the work.

Greetings
from woman-less Dano! Last weekend Melissa, Andrea,
and Amy flew down to the country of Benin for
the Come Before Winter Women’s Retreat. It will
be a time of renewal shared with missionary women
from all over Africa plus a large group of facilitators
who made the trip from the States. Pray that God
blesses their week, and that Air Burkina gives
them as smooth a ride back as it gave them going
(never did I think I would trust Air Burkina with
my bride!). In the meantime, I’ve stayed busy
attempting a remodeling project on our living
room (Melissa will be glad she missed the mess!).
Plus, we three bachelors are getting in a little
male bonding time… We have some great news as
it concerns our work. Last Saturday night, 34
people were baptized in the village of Mebar.
We have been going to Mebar for almost 5 months
now – it was such a pleasure to see these people
we’ve come to know accept their Lord. It was especially
exciting to get to baptize our nightguard Alois
and one other man and then to watch them baptize
their friends and family. God really is so good!
Please pray for this very young church, that it
would be filled with the Spirit and come to understand
quickly what it means to be God’s people. Have
a great month! Andy and Melissa

Greetings
from Burkina Faso. God has sent the rains that
have cooled things some. We are landscaping our
yard - trucking in dirt and sand from a creek
and setting up bricks to keep it from washing
away. We've added a swing set and sandbox for
Daniel as well. He enjoyed his first sleep-over
as he stayed with the family that runs the CMA
guesthouse in Ouaga while we went on a date to
celebrate our 9th anniversary. It was a night
of passion as we went out to eat at a fancy French
restaurant and to see "The Passion of Christ,"
which motivated us as we try to serve the one
who sacrificed it all. The Holy Spirit is moving
in the new Christians in Nakar. They met on their
own for the first time, last Sunday. Please, praise
God today for what he is doing there and pray
for our other preaching points, Boncholi, Dano-Paris,
and Mebar.
