The Dagara Digest is an email publication sent to you by the mission team living in Dano, Burkina Faso, working among the Dagara people. The Dagara Digest will keep you informed of our work among the Dagara, the goings-on within our families, and the ways you can join us in our work through prayer. You are on this list because you have expressed interest in receiving emails from at least one of our four families. You are invited to write to any of us with your comments. Also, if you have a friend who would like to receive the Dagara Digest on a regular basis, please forward this message to them and ask them to click on the "subscribe" button on the left. Thank you for your interest, your support and, most importantly, your prayers on behalf of God’s work here among the Dagara!

Daniel and I are really enjoying having Andrea back from her retreat in Benin. Kids say the darnedest things, though. Recently, Daniel was upset with me so he decided to bring his problem to Jesus - he prayed "Jesus, would you destroy my Daddy?" Although I love his honesty, I explained to him that Jesus only does what is good for His Father, God, and that it would not glorify God for Jesus to destroy me (at least I hope so).

We are excited about the new births in Mebar. Pray for this new church to grow quickly in maturity. In Nakar, there is a young man named "yawnbacere" (pronounced:y-ow-nn-bah-chedd-ay) that is learning and reteaching our evangelism series to the young church there. Please pray that there will be more leaders like him to help him in leading this young church and that they will be able to choose soon the next village where they are to go to share this good news we have given them. Please pray as well for Boncholi. There is just one young man, "Winceslas," who is consistently at meetings. There have been a couple of times that he was the only one. But on the positive side, he has a great memory and has really latched on to these stories. Pray that he will convince his friends to join him in his interest so that a church might be planted in Boncholi.

Well, we are both in full Dagara language learning mode now. Amy is studying with Rebekah and Chad is working with a man called Apollinaire. Please pray for these friendships and for speed in learning the language.

We continue the process of moving in and waiting on details such as water and turning on lights in the entire house. It is nice to feel slightly settled before we hit the road in August and September. We were especially excited this past month to witness the birth of a church in the village of Mebar. We give God the glory that his voice has spoken in so many lives. Remember these baby Christians, pray for their growth and steadfastness.

We also give thanks for time we were able to spend with a college friend of Chad's, Adam Hawk. He was participating in some short term work with our Baptist coworkers a few towns away. Thanks for listening and we love you!

Archie, Mandy, and Emma Chankin
Archie and Mandy Chankin

Greetings from the Chankins. We are still enjoying our time visiting with friends and family here in the States. We are spending this month down in the Austin area with Archie's mom, dad and grandmother. We are enjoying our time with them and Emma is getting to know a new set of grandparents. This month Archie will be participating in the missions serivces at Oak Hills on July 25 and will be teaching at Southern Hills in Buda, Texas on August 1. He is looking forward to the opportunity to share what God is doing among the Dagara with these two churches. Mandy is getting more used to the mothering thing, but still manages to fit in a few visits with friends now and then. Please continue to pray for Emma's continued good health and growth and for our time here to be restful and productive.

Greetings from rain-soaked Dano! Life here is back to normal, as Melissa returned from her Come Before Winter Women's Retreat. It was a wonderful time of renewal shared with missionary women from all over Africa plus a large group of facilitators who made the trip from the States. We owe God a lot of thanks, not only for the retreat itself, but also for safe and uneventful travels on Air Burkina!

Andy took advantage of a woman-less house to attempt messy remodeling projects (ranging from knocking out a wall in the living room to installing breather tubes on our septic tanks!), as well as to get in a little male bonding time with the other two bachelors-for-a-week…

We have some great news as it concerns our work. Saturday, June 28, 34 people were baptized in the village of Mebar. We have been going to Mebar for almost 5 months now - it was such a pleasure to see these people we've come to know accept their Lord. It was especially exciting to get to baptize our nightguard Alois and one other man and then to watch them baptize their friends and family. God really is so good! Please pray for this very young church, that it would be filled with the Spirit and come to understand quickly what it means to be God's people.

Have a great month!

Andy and Melissa
