What do
you expect after two years? Change. Wew were aware of changes
from the time we landed in Ouagadougou. Andy and Melissa met
us at the airport with thier own carry-on-luggage, a carseat
with newly adopted son Elijah, tucked inside. After years
of prayer, what a reason to rejoice!
In 2004,
only two children were on the team and now there are five,
with one more on the way. These little blessings are a joy
and represent only one of the transitions the families are
experiencing. We were especially happy that all four families
were in Dano for our team development work with them and for
the making of a documentary on their work. Prince Mukaba of
Good News Productions International came from Nairobi, Kenya
to help with the filming. In the midst of a challenging place
to live, work, and raise a family the team is doing well.
We continue to marvel at how well they "make life work"
in Dano.
Since
our last visit, God has been working in wonderful ways. We
were blessed to visit four of the nine churches that have
been planted. In fact, the Muturi church was birthed as we
witnessed the first baptisms. All of the churches sent representatives
to an all-day meeting on Christian Families. It was thrilling
to see Dagara Christians engage important topics for the first
time. It is like witnessing another book fo Acts, "Acts
of the Dagara," unfold. Those who support and pray for
this work should have great joy. God is using this team and
Dagara Christians to raise up a Dagara church.

This past
month has been a great one around here. We were blessed to
have the Guilds (team mentors) with us for a while and following
them, our three ACU interns arrived. We have sure enjoyed
getting to know them and experiencing life here through their
eyes. Of course, some of the new experiences have included
new foods which are often questionable. They have been troopers.
Archie had the opportunity to take the interns on a short
survey trip through southeastern Burkina and northern Togo.
They met a group of Harding interns, led by Matt Miller, in
Togo and enjoyed the time together talking with people from
the Gourmanche and Momba people groups. They discovered that
there is a great need for evangelism in northern Togo, but
the gospel is being preached in the southeastern part of Burkina.
Please pray for the people in Togo who have yet to hear the
Good News.
Archie
has started going out to villages again. Since it is not the
time to start new preaching points, he has been going with
Andy and Aaron to existing preaching points. He is also working
on organizing the Train and Multiply translation project.
Most of Mandy's days are spent hanging out with the kids and
keeping the house running. She does enjoy the "play dates"
that Emma and Jack have had with other team kids. It is a
blessing to get to spend so much time watching our kiddos
grow. Jack had his first case of malaria this month, but he
has bounced back from it in great form. Emma loves swinging
on her new swing set and helping our house workers accomplish
their tasks. Emma's vocabulary is growing daily and Jack is
just growing. They have both settled into their routines now
which means more peace and sleep for the parents. Please pray
for continued health for us all, especially the kids. Also
continue to pray for rain, it is coming but it needs to come
more regularly. Pray that Dagara evangelists will be ready
to share the gospel in new villages when the dry season comes.
Thanks for all the prayers.
Blessings,
Archie, Mandy, Emma, and Jack

It hardly
seems like a month has gone by. The Carter household is doing
great and many exciting things have happened this month. First,
the request that we mentioned last month about baptisms in
Muturi was honored. Over 20 people were baptized there with
no interference from crocodiles. This church is also starting
to meet in a very visible place on Sunday mornings to increase
the community's awareness of their meetings. Second, THE CAR
IS IN! The funds came together from so many different sources
and the dealership was able to work out a vehicle for us.
It was just in time since now there are many trips we need
to do where we will use the extra seating. We were sad to
see our other truck go. "Jahu Buckaroo," as he was
called, had seen churches planted throughout West Africa,
among the Aja of Benin and the Dagara. We are glad though
to be in a car that gives us (and our teammates) more peace
of mind. Last, we are in the middle of hosting interns and
helping show them what life "is really like" here.
Please pray for their remaining three weeks here. Please also
pray for Noah and Chad. Amy is headed back to the States for
her brothers wedding and will leave us boys along for a while.
Thanks for your continual support in prayer.
In Christ,
Chad, Amy, and Noah Carter

We've
really enjoyed a nice string of visitors in our home lately.
Daniel, didn't know what to do anymore now that we don't have
guests, but he is excited to see his Aunt Allyson and Grandparents
soon.
We recently
benefited from a new team tradition. There is no date worthy
restaurant in Dano. Therefore, our teammate Chad coordinated
a date night for us. We enjoyed fantastic food and romantic
ambiance at his homemade restaurant.
Give thanks
to God for the fact that the pregnancy is progressing normally
so far, although according to the most recent test results
we know that we probably have to look forward to some blood
pressure problems later. We are glad that we are going to
be delivering the baby in a situation where there will be
adequate pre-natal and neo-natal care. We now know for sure
that it is going to be a boy.
We recently
worked with our interns out in the village of Nyinyime to
plant over thirty moringa tress in their church field. They
will use these trees to supplement the vitamin intake of villagers
in Nyinyime. The interns also really enjoyed being able to
use their hands to minister to the Dagara.

It has
been a great month around the new and improved Johnson household!
Amidst a fairly constant stream of visitors (which included
Sonny and Eunice), we have enjoyed discovering the joys (and
the not-so-joys) of parenting an infant. It amazes us when
we stop to think that our son Elijah has already been with
us over a month. He is such a good boy and obviously an answer
to many prayers. Please be praying that both adoptions (the
Burkinabe and the ensuing American) will keep moving forward.
Please also pray that we can receive Elijah's temporary passport
quickly so that we can bring him with us for a visit to the
States in August (otherwise, Andy and Elijah will have to
stay while Mom celebrates her parents' 50th wedding anniversary).
Work has
been a joy this month. We enjoyed the end of the woman's curriculum
out in Dano-Pari with a party at our home that filled our
living room to bursting! It was also a privilege to witness
12 new brothers and sisters baptized into Christ in Sorian
and 14 more in Dano-Pari (many as a result of the women's
curriculum). In Mebar, there were the first baptisms in over
a year in that church when 5 new disciples were added to their
number. Nyi-Kpier also has several people that have shown
interest in putting on their Lord this week. All this comes
at what theoretically should be the down swing of our evangelistic
efforts as fieldwork has begun again in earnest. Praise the
Lord for the ways He surprises all the time! God is good!
God bless
you!
Andy and Melissa
