Dagore

Check back here often to read stories of the Dagore church and fellowship with them in the name of Christ.

Send them an encouraging message.

After the first of the year in 2005, we started teaching in Dagore. Over 30 people have come to Christ in Dagore. Zobasewn has been the primary leader of this church and he has helped to initiate church planting efforts in Dakola. Another influential older man, Ba-wono, who is over 90 years old and is helping influence many folks in their decision to follow Christ.

Nothing happened today. I showed for Sunday church and was informed by several people that aren\'t Christians that the Christians do still meet from time to time, but that all of them were out of town. Pray for this church -- it apparently hasn\'t been healthy in a while.

Five women and one man did meet this week for a study of Mark. Thank God for their presence and pray for the strength of this church. They are still very discouraged.

The church did meet today but it was somewhat discouraging. They are a headless body. This church needs people to stand up and lead. Please pray for leaders to be called forth.

Today I had my closest and saddest encounter with the beginnings of a Dagara funeral. The church in Dagore had a very slow start and has struggled constantly with consistency. When we first began to meet there was one older lady who hosted us. She would sit and listen and encourage all the children to listen. Like most Dagara people, she had only the faintest idea of her age, but, given the ages of her children, she was at least in her late 50\'s. She is also the mother of a church leader, Zorbasew. I arrived in the village within 30 minutes of her death. This is the first person to die in Dagore that is a member of their church. In the midst of my own sadness, I asked the church what they wanted to do. They decided to have a prayer of blessing over the funeral and to take a small collection as a gift to the family. The prayer was also for the safe arrival of her sons. Zorbasew had left to find his older brother to let him know that their mother was about to die. As I drove away, I realized I don\'t know the ladies name. I\'ve always called her \'grandmother.\' Please pray for grandmother\'s funeral, she is the first in what will be a great cloud of witnesses from Dagore.

Please pray for leaders in Dagore. The church has relied on one man, Zorbasewn, for a very long time. It has become very frustrating because they use his absence as an excuse not to meet. Pray for the reality of this weakness to awaken new leaders. I\'ll be discussing this tomorrow morning with them after church services. This church is desperately in need of maturation and growth in Christ.

Dagore Worship – 11 March, 2007
We had a good time out in Dagore for worship this Sunday. They are the only one of the 10 churches with whom we have worked, directly or indirectly, that did not have a representative at the most recent leaders meeting in Nakar. When I asked them about why they didn’t come, one of the young men laughed and said that Nakar was too far. I then reminded them that there have been three meetings in Dano and one in Dano-Pari where many old widows from Nakar have walked barefoot the entire 40 k’s. I encouraged this young man that if these old ladies could do it then so could he. I also shared with them the portion of the leaders meeting that I had taught (on the Lord’s prayer).
We were meeting under a nice shady grove of mango trees that is actually where a school meets during the week in Dagore. At the beginning of the meeting they leaned a gigantic chalkboard and it’s metal easle against the trunk of one of the mango trees. While I was teaching a strong gust of wind came along and knocked the chalkboard over on a bench full of little kids. The metal easle hit severl of them on the head. My first thought was that we would have to stop the meeting and take these kids to the hospital. But Dagara kids are tough, and if they don’t want to be . . . then too bad – at least that’s how Zobasewn approached the situation. There were no obvious injuries and when one of the kids started to cry a little, Zobasewn shook his finger at the kid and told him not to cry. Andrea and I reflected afterward that if something like that had happened in the states it would have taken at least 30 minutes of passing out drinks and hugs and calling parents in. But the whole ordeal was over in a few seconds and I was back to teaching.
Please pray that the Dagore church will grow in maturity and will reach out once again to Dakola or some other point.
