Visit in Nakar
Yanni (hi)!
Praise God for all that he has done in sending us such a good night guard as Bayuor. Well, more than a night guard, a friend, and I pray, some day soon, a brother in Christ! Our team has recently finished the process of putting together the first 14 evangelistic lessons we are going to teach. We wrote them in English and are in the process of translating them into Dagara. Please pray that God will bless the translation process so that we would not put any obstacles in the way of the Dagara hearing God's good news. A while back I was talking to Bayuor about the fact that we were going to be ready soon to start teaching and that I wanted him to be on the look out for villages that might be interested in our coming. On Friday, week before last, he told me that his wife had gone to her father's village to help him in the fields. He was going to go visit her on Saturday, and he wanted to know if I wanted him to ask around in the village about whether or not we could come to teach. I said that would be fine and I wanted him to ask the Chief and the Delagate (an important person in each village - I'm still not certain of the nature of his authority). So Bayuor took his bicycle out to Nakar (about 18 miles from Dano, our town). He came back and told me that the chief wanted to meet us. So, Archie, Andy, and I went out to Nakar with Bayuor and talked with the Chief and the Delagate and about 10 or so other men. Bayuor was such a great guide, not only because of the fact that I did not know exactly where Nakar was, but he was able to guide us in culturally appropriate behavior. There were also many times I only knew one way to say something in Dagara. Once I said it, if they didn't understand it I had no recourse. However, since I have been studying with Bayuor and he thus knows a little bit about what we are going to be teachign, he was able to help me explain. The chief and the delagate both gave positive responses and said that we would be welcome to come and teach our evangelism series. They told us to let them know when we were coming and they would make sure that the whole village comes out to hear us. Praise God for answered prayers! Ask that God will continue to make the people of Nakar receptive to His call. There was one thing they said which really touched our hearts and we would ask you also to be praying about this. They asked us if we would be teaching people how to be baptised into God. We, of course, said yes. Then they informed us that there are some in their village that had been baptised into Satan and that they would not be able to accept a baptism into God. We knew that they often refer to their initiation rites as Satan baptisms, but it still struck home hard what a hold Satan has on this place when he said that. This is an enormous opportunity for those of you to spend some time on your knees praying to God for the Dagara people. Please pray that:
